A quick idea to make you better in 30 minutes

Free Trial closes TONIGHT

Hey!

Before we start today’s newsletter, I want to remind you (one more time. . .) that the Free Trial to ThatPickleballSchool closes TONIGHT!

If you’re on the fence, join us - and if it’s not for you, just cancel and you won’t be charged.

More on that later. . .

Let’s get into Thursday’s newsletter.

Pickleball time is precious.

You’re likely balancing work, family, and maybe even another hobby every single week, so carving out solid court time can feel impossible at times.

And for many, the idea of using that precious time to drill or practice instead of play is a non-starter.

However. . . if you do find yourself making time to practice, I’ve got a routine for you to consider if you want to get the MOST and be able to track your progress.

I call it the 30/30 Drill Method

It’s a framework my friend, Tyler, and I have been loving lately.

It’s simple, but when your time is tight, simplicity wins. Basically, it’s:

  • 30 minutes for them: Let your partner choose the skill they want to sharpen. Your only job is to set up the drill, feed balls, and give feedback.

  • 30 minutes for you: Switch roles. Bring your own prioritized drills and lean on them to feed and coach you through each repetition.

This split ensures that both of you leave with crystal-clear takeaways about what you actually improved, rather than a vague sense of “it felt okay.”

By giving yourself (and your drilling partner) 30 straight minutes to work on “their” thing, you’re allowing yourselves to get into a groove and a rhythm.

Whereas most of us, when we drill, we simply take turns after just a few minutes or we try working on something at the same time.

This gets clunky, and it’s actually harder on our minds to switch so often.

Think about your last gym workout: you wouldn’t spend an hour doing random reps on the leg press and hope your squat magically improved, right?

Then why let your pickleball practice be any different? When you break your session into focused, coach-and-player segments:

  • You attack your biggest weaknesses head-on.

  • You maintain high intensity throughout.

  • You build confidence by seeing targeted progress every single drill.

How to set it up
Over the next week, schedule at least one 30/30 session.

Hopefully, you have someone willing to do it with you.

Jot down the one skill you want to crush—whether it’s your third-shot drop, your backhand volley, or specific patterns. Then commit to walking away with a single, measurable improvement.

It might even help to rate yourself on a scale when you start versus when you finish.

It’s been great for Tyler and me, and I’m eager to see if it works for you as well.

Hit reply if you give it a try and let me know how it goes.

Till next week,
Kyle
