One Bad Shot ≠ A Bad Game

No matter how many times I’ve learned and re-learned this lesson, it still happens far too often.

And, I’m guessing if it’s happening to me, it’s happening to you as well. . .

Here’s the scenario:

You miss a shot. Maybe it hits the net. Maybe it sails long.
And suddenly, it’s all you can think about.

That one point starts to feel like the point.
Like it ruined the whole match.
Like you ruined the whole match.

We’ve all been there. Zooming in on the mistake.
Replaying it. Obsessing over it. Letting it take up way too much space in our heads.

Worrying about what our partners are thinking of us. It’s really bad if it’s the first time you’ve played with someone.

You want to turn around and tell them you’re not really that bad. . .

But then, because you’re in your head, you miss another one. Then maybe another.

Before you know it, thinking about one point - one point in a long line of points. . . has made you feel like you’re terrible - or at least not as good as you think you should be.

But the best players?

They learn to zoom out.

To see the bigger picture.
To remember—it was just one point in a sea of points.
